LEVEL 1 Certain letter combinations can provide us with clues as to how to pronounce English words. Normally speaking, words with "ee" ( ex: tree ) or "ea" ( ex: flea ) together will create a "long e" sound. Words which end with "ey" ( ex: donkey ) will produce the same sound. When the letter "e" is proceded by a consonant and is followed by another consonant ( ex: zebra ) it will usually make the same "long e" sound as well. Below, you can try your hand at identifying words that contain the "long e" sound. Look at the spelling of the following words and try to choose which word has the "long e" sound.
